About Us

Posie's Place, offering "Farm Fresh Inspirations" on Route 5 North in Ascutney has just opened for the summer season.

The new flower and farm market is operated by partners Julie baker and George Belt of Claremont. The partners sold Christmas trees and wreaths during the holiday season and are putting the finishing touches on the renovation of the former summer market.

Baker, who has a background as a florist, is offering colorful hanging baskets for patios and decks together with potted floral arrangements and packs of annual flowers.

The large greenhouse will carry a selection of vegetable plants.

The former market has been closed for two years but Posie's is up and running, offering and promoting local vegetables and produce. Customers can purchase High Mowing organic seeds and Vermont sprouts. Baker said she is working with local producers and farms to sell "all natural" foods.

The market already offers breads, water buffalo yogurt and mozzarella cheese as well as artisan cheeses, milk, a natural soda and fresh farm eggs.

Packets of sausage and meats are also available from the smokehouse in Windsor.

Natural foods are not just for people, Posie's also carries treats for favorite canines.

The fields on either side of the market have been plowed and Baker said they will soon be planting sweet corn and a vareity of mixed vegetables including peas, beans, peppers, potatoes, fall sunflowers and squash.

There will be an educational component to the market Baker said, people can not only see how their food evolves but gardening workshops for kids are being planned with geodesic domes for play.

"We will change with the seasons and have a Fall family harvest event," she said.

Gifts include cookie cutters with recipes, books on cheese of vermont and gardening, note cards, goat's milk soap from Cornish and several selections of dried herb dips.

With a "flowerful" background and a love of flowers Baker said that the name of the new market "Posie's Place" was chosen because a posy, or small bunch of flowers, is offered to someone you like as a special gift. Posie's will have lots of colorful blooms to select from for the upcoming Mother's day.

The market is open six days a week from 9 a.m. to 6p.m. and closed Tuesdays.
